Sarah Yeazel (they/them) is our new Featured Artist starting in November 2023.
Sarah loved to paint—and then let it fall by the wayside for a while. Then the pandemic hit, and they lived alone and were suddenly isolated from friends and social gatherings. Suddenly, there was a lot of time... like a lot of time.
They picked up painting again and, like everyone else, thought that lockdown would be a few weeks at most. Then it kept going, and Sarah kept painting and painting and painting. When the world felt dark, Sarah went fourth gear into color. They spent months of isolation painting things they loved against dark backgrounds, trying to find the brightest colors they could make that would pop against darkness.
This was their way to get through and find joy in a time where it felt like it was fleeting. It was a way to remember that even when things are bad, there's still a lot to look at with joy. Art is for everyone, and Sarah hopes that when you are seeing darkness, you can find a bit of color to get you through (storebought is also fine).
